You Want Me to Quilt Your Project
PREPARING YOUR QUILT TOP AND BACKING
If you are piecing your backing, please make sure that the seams are horizontal as this will make loading your quilt much easier and is less likely to get skewed. Again, please make sure it is square.
TIP: adding borders and sashing to your quilt is the nightmare for a lot of quilters. It is a good practice to cut your fabric for your borders and sashing at the time when you are ready to do so.
The best way to add borders to a quilt top is to measure the top in thee places (down the middle and on each edge). Take the average of these measurements and cut your border pieces for the sides only. Find your centre mark on both the quilt and side borders. Pin your centers first and then work your way to the top corner and down to the bottom. Follow the same directions to the left side and the same technique for the top and bottom.
By doing it this way, you will eliminate your quilt not being square.
I carry a wide supply of pantograph designs as you can see below.
- Trim your threads from your quilt top. This is crucial especially if the background is light.
- Make sure that your quilt is square. If you are not sure on how to do this, please call and I will guide you on how to do this.
- NO BASTING REQUIRED! NO MORE KITCHEN FLOOR, NO MORE SOAR KNEES! The roller system on the machine eliminates the need for this. This system provides even tension across the quilt back and top while it is being quilted.
- Make sure your backing and your batting is a total of 8 inches larger than your quilt top. i.e. if your top measures 40” x 60”, your backing and batting should measure 48” x 68”
